SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA
The
San Francisco Bay Area is known as the high-tech capital of the world as well
as the financial center of the West Coast. This nine-county metropolitan area
is home to more than 6.7 million people, numerous multinational corporations and
some of the United States top-universities.
With an annual
economy in excess of $200 billion, the Bay Area ranks as the fifth-largest economy
in the United States and 21st-largest in the world! Some 60.000 business are located
here and the area is expected to gain more than 100.000 jobs in the next 20 years.
It's currently recognized as being the most productive region in the Unites
States, as having the highest concentration of research centers as well as the
fastest-growing small business sector in the country. In short, the Bay Area is
bustling with activity.
The banking and IT-industries are of course
very prominent, but so too are sectors such as food processing, insurance, publishing,
chemicals, oil refining and machinery. The Bay Area also has the highest density
of venture capital firms in the world.
