2011 Annual Christmas Luncheon
Fairmont hotel
December 9

The 2011 annual Christmas Luncheon was a great success featuring a traditional Swedish Julbord consisting of cured salmon, herring, Jansson's temptation, Swedish meatballs and more delicacies cooked to perfection by Chef Pelle and Fairmont Hotel. Over 125 guests gathered in the beautiful Venetian room to enjoy a traditional Swedish Christmas filled with joy, food, ginger bread cookies, mulled wine, aquavit, snaps songs and a Lucia pageant. The luncheon ended with a thrilling raffle with great prizes. Congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to all our sponsors, guests, board members and Lucia performers who made this luncheon possible!

SACC-SF/SV CRAYFISH PARTY
AUGUST 26

Approximately 80 guests indulged in crayfish and Swedish summer food at the SACC-SF/SV Crayfish Party! The event was set at the Norwegian Club where the evening started with a traditional crayfish dinner, including västerbotten cheese quiche, mushroom toast and a variety of hors d'oeuvres prepared by Chef Pelle. The food was accompanied by a chardonnay from Field Vineyards, Spaten beer and, of course, snaps. The evening continued with silent auction, dancing and open bar at the lower floor where coffee, provided by Central Coffee & Tea, was served along with an array of Swedish pastries. Thank you to all our guests who made the 2011 Crayfish Part such a successful event!

SACC-AACC SUMMER SCRAMBLE 2011
GOLF TOURNAMENT
JUNE 10

The SACC-AACC Summer Scramble on June 10th at Presidio Golf Course turned out to be a great all-day event with totally 88 players. The day started at 10 am with a putting contest at Crissy Fields and Sports Basement and the day continued with an active day on the course including lunch. A hole-in-one contest was held in the afternoon and the prize was a brand new SAAB of latest design. The sunny but windy day ended with a dinner and a silent auction at the Club House. The Award Trophy, a hand made golf ball designed in glass went to the winning team Torbjörn Bergs team. A big thank you to everyone who made this day a magnificent day at Presidio Golf Course!

AN EVENING WITH FREDRIK HÄREN

JUNE 6

Fredrik Härén, voted Sweden's speaker of the year 2007, discussed business creativity and what people in already developed countries can learn from people in developing countries. Fredrik is one of the most talked-about names and the author of the best seller book "The Idea Book". The event was very interesting and the attendees participated in lively discussions with Fredrik about creativity and innovations and enjoyed the wine and the light appetizers. They also had the chance to buy a signed copy of his latest books.


MONTHLY LUNCHEON WITH
SVEN OTTO LITTORIN

APRIL 28

Sven Otto Littorin, former Swedish Minister of Employment and former President of the EU Council of Ministers was the guest speaker at the April Luncheon held by SACC-SF/SV. Littorin discussed innovation and jobs, as well as policy implications and difficulties policy makers face in the U.S and Europe. The guests got an interesting insight in the latest economical turmoil and what key decisions the Swedish Government made, to turn the economy around.


INTERNATIONAL NETWORKING EVENT
MARCH 30

SACC-SF/SV organized an international networking event together with the Australian-American Chamber of Commerce, South African Association of Business Communities, New Zealand-American Association, Irish Network Bay Area and California Spain Chamber of Commerce. The event was sold out and much appreciated by our members and other business professionals. During the evening, they had the pleasure of tasting different wines and beverages from a various number of countries. Great raffle prizes were given out to a few lucky winners.


MONTHLY LUNCHEON WITH SARA ÖHRVALL
FEBRUARY 24

SACC-SF/SV had the great honor of presenting an exclusive Luncheon with media expert Sara Öhrvall at the The San Francisco City Club. The topic of the Luncheon was "Building the Innovative Corporation" and the level of interest was very high. Öhrvall is the Director of the Research and Development Department at Bonnier, a department she founded in San Francisco. Öhrvall has recently led the launch of the Mag+ concept which includes the launch of Popular Science for iPad, she also manages digital product development for all Bonnier's media channels.



MONTHLY LUNCHEON WITH TOMAS CONRADI
JANUARY 27

Tomas Conradi was the guest speaker at this year's first Monthly Luncheon held by SACC-SF/SV. The topic was "10 truths about branding that your marketing people don't tell their CEOs", which is also the name of his new book. Tomas gave the attendees an interesting insight in modern brand building and its myths and truths. The Luncheon was sold out and turned out to be an interesting event. Tomas is the Founder of Differ, Sweden's No 1 Management Consultancy Focused on Brand Strategy.

HAPPY HOUR AT CANTINA
JANUARY 25

The premises of Cantina where full of people that were there to celebrate the first SACC-SF/SV Happy Hour of the year. Absolut Vodka had great deals on the newly launched flavour Absolut Wild Tea. Attendes were first and foremost from Sweden but also from Danmark, Norway, Japan, Holland and of course the U.S.




CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON
DECEMBER 9

The annual Christmas Luncheon attracted more people than ever. 138 guests had traditional Christmas cuisine, aquavit, glögg, ginger bread cookies and sang Swedish Christmas songs this cold day in December at Westin St. Francis Hotel. The Swedish cuisine included herring and cured salmon that were prepared specially by Chef Pelle. Guests met new and old friends and had the pleasure to see one of Sweden's most integral parts of Swedish Christmas traditions: The Lucia Processions.





HOLIDAY MIXER AT BEKRIS GALLERY
DECEMBER 1

To celebrate the holiday season SACC-SF/SV organized a Holiday Mixer at Bekris Gallery, 49 Geary Street. People mingled with cocktails by Absolut Vodka, wine and enjoyed light appetizers by Chef Pelle. The art gallery featured an extraordinary exhibition by photographer Jean-Dominique Burton. A large and diverse crowd showed up and people had ample oppotunities to make new friends and contacts.

LUNCHEON WITH KRISTINA PETERSON
OCTOBER 28

Kristina Peterson, the founder of Mayflower Partners and former Vice President, Project Finance and Business Development for Suntech Power Holdings, was the luncheon speaker this month. She discussed the topic of “The Global Solar PV Market – Current and Future Trends”. The guests showed great interest in this important matter and had many questions regarding the topic and its related areas.



SWEDISH BAY AREA ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS 2010
OCTOBER 22

160 guests attended and witnessed the first annual Swedish Bay Area Achievement Awards. The event turned out to be a greater success than we could ever have hoped for and the response has been outstanding. Three different awards were handed out this evening. The first award, Most Beneficial Exchange, went to David Nordfors, the co-founder and executive director of the Stanford Center for Innovation and Communication. The second award went to the Swedish American Library and Archives Committee for Most Cultural Enrichment. Thirdly, the Swedish-American Business Achievement was awarded to Pia Andersson and Mimi The Sardine, designer of eco-friendly bibs, aprons, bags, tabletops, splash mats and more. Once again we would like to congratulate all winners for their outstanding achievements!

JOINT HAPPY HOUR @ SKOOL
SEPTEMBER 23

The October business mixer took place at Restaurant Skool in the SOMA-district, where SACC together with Young Scandinavians Club, DACC and Norwegian Club hosted a happy hour. Both Scandinavians and non-Scandinavians got together this evening to enjoy a couple of drinks and each others company.

The September luncheon covered the topic “Mission-Aligned Investing: Shaping investment strategy with personal values“. The guest speakers, Laura and Patricia, were discussing how to shape your investment portfolio and what impact it would have on returns, what tools are aviable to explore this approach and how to measure the results.

“LEGAL INSIGHTS FOR THE BUSINESS PERSON”
SEPTEMBER 9

This business mixer presented four attorneys from Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold covering one topic each, where the audience got an insight of how to handle intellectual property, start-ups, employment law and litigation avoidance. After the presentation the guests had an opportunity to ask questions and enjoy a glass of wine and delicious appetizers.

ANNUAL CRAYFISHPARTY
AUGUST 27

On the last Friday of August, the guests at the annual Crayfish Party gathered up at the Norwegian Club to celebrate this traditional Swedish festivity. The amount of crayfish, meatballs, sill and Västerbotten pie, accompanied by schnapps, vodka, beer and wine was enough to satisfy everybody twice. A silent auction with fantastic prizes and a dance floor with Swedish music added on to the success of this event!

LUNCHEON WITH PATRICK SCHWERDTFEGER

The luncheon took place at the Urban Tavern in downtown San Francisco. The topic of the day was “Social Media Victories – Real Businesses, Real Campaigns, Real Results”.
Patrick Schwerdtfeger, author and social media expert, was discussing examples of how organizations have used and can use Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and YouTube for increasing revenue and brand awareness.

On August 3rd, SACC hosted a happy hour event at the new John Colins bar in the SOMA district. The guests for the evening had a chance to enjoy tasty cocktails while mingling around meeting new people as well as chatting with old friends. The relaxed atmosphere combined with a great group of people made this evening a fun and successful event.

SWEDISH SUMMER CELEBRATION
JUNE 17

The Swedish American Chamber of Commerce and Kvänum Kitchens hosted on July 17 a Swedish Summer Celebration in the elegant showroom of Kvänum Kitchens. During the evening the attendees were offered traditional Swedish food, tasty summer punch, wine, beer and door prizes. Both Swedes and non-Swedes were excited over this successful event and everyone enjoyed the taste of Sweden.

Ms. Ayerdi-Kaplan is the Executive Director of the Transbay Joint Powers Authority. Having received a federal loan of $171 million just days before the event, Ayerdi-Kaplan was thrilled to present the Transbay Transit Center Project to the wide variety of professionals attending the event. Named as one of the Most Influential Women in the Public Sector by the San Francisco Business Times Ms Ayerdi-Kaplan presented a short DVD presentation of the history of public transportation in the Bay Area what the future holds with Transbay Transit Center. The attendees were very interested in hearing about the project and even more eager to ask questions. So eager, in fact, that the Q&A portion of the event had to be cut short.

The year started with happy hour in the heart of the Financial District, MR a hip yet elegant barbershop and urban lounge, capturing the perfect balance between cultured sophistication and raw energy. Special drinks were offered for the occasion and the venue quickly filled up with a diverse crowd of professionals from the Bay Area and beyond. Connections were made, fun was had and tasty drinks were enjoyed in elegant and modern surroundings. An events so successful SACC-SF/SV is considering making it a monthly event on their calendar. So if you missed this one you may very well get another chance!
