160 guests attended and witnessed the first annual Swedish Bay Area Achievement Awards. The event turned out to be a greater success than we could ever have hoped for and the response has been outstanding.
Three different awards were handed out this
evening. The first award, Most Beneficial Exchange, went to David Nordfors, the
co-founder and executive director of the Stanford Center for Innovation and Communication.
The second award went to the Swedish American Library and Archives Committee for
Most Cultural Enrichment. Thirdly, the Swedish-American Business Achievement was
awarded to Pia Andersson and Mimi The Sardine, designer of eco-friendly bibs,
aprons, bags, tabletops, splash mats and more. Once again we would like to congratulate
all winners for their outstanding achievements!
Special thanks to our sponsors:

Swedish-American Business Achievement
Whether by innovative thinking, display of corporate social responsibility, uncompromising commitment, business savvy or significant investment to further Swedish-American business, this award recognizes creativity. By choosing its own path, this company has established a sustainable concept which successfully benefits both the company's own interests and enriches society in the long-term. The Swedish Bay Area Achievement Awards recognize the value of creative striving of a company which profitably benefits society by its socially-responsible practices locally, nationally, or globally.
Most Beneficial Exchange
Whether it is an entrepreneurial spirit, perseverance, personality, humor, business savvy or a relentless drive for improvement, this award honors one who has strengthened connections between Sweden and Northern California. The award winner - an individual, business professional or cultural figure - has been particularly successful and committed to a good cause within business or culture that promotes Swedish/American collaboration. This relationship can be of any kind which strives toward a long-lasting, mutually beneficial exchange between both countries. In an exemplary way, the winner has fundamentally improved the bonds between both countries to enhance future commerce between them.
Most Original Cultural Enrichment
During the 19th and early 20th centuries approximately one third of the Swedish population immigrated to North America, bringing with them their cherished Swedish traditions and customs. The Most Original Cultural Enrichment Award honors an individual or organization that preserves and furthers our common Swedish heritage. This award winner has strengthened the social bonds in the United States unifying and passing on the legacy of Swedish ancestors and current Swedes or Swedish-Americans to future generations.
