In true Swedish spirit, 150 guests revelled in the jovial atmosphere of San Francisco’s Fairmont Hotel on Friday, December 12th — in the wake of one of the most ferocious storms in recent years.
The luncheon guests were greeted by new SACC-SF/SV Chairwoman Helena Kristersson and Master of Ceremony Oscar Gestblom, while enjoying warm Swedish-style mulled wine, Geijer’s “Glögg,” A smorgasbord of Swedish Christmas delicacies was beautifully presented by Chef Pelle and the Fairmont Hotel and included entrees such as sherry tomato herring, aquavit-cured salmon with fennel, honey clazed spareribs, “Jansson’s Temptation” and, for dessert, traditional saffron buns “Lussebullar” and Swedish ginger bread cookies.
Towards the end of the festive meal, a Lucia procession made its way through the banquet room in celebration of the arrival of light in the dark season. The concert of much loved Lucia songs delighted the guests who hummed along to the tunes that bear light into the dark season… “Into our dark house she comes, bearing lighted candles, Saint Lucia, Saint Lucia!”
God Jul! Merry Christmas!
